Our White Rhinos
Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch is proudly the home of the first white rhino breeding programme in Uganda. Located in Nakasongola district, not only can you find rhinos, but a wide variety of bird species and other wildlife. The wildlife ranch has become a popular destination for tourists looking for adventure. We offer Rhino trekking, birding tours, nature hikes, night-time nature walks and a shoebill trek & canoe ride.
The ranch offers a bar and restaurant where we serve cold drinks and delicious home cooked meals. And if you’re looking to stay overnight, you can choose between our campsite or one of our guest houses.

New Additions To The Ranch
Ziwa has added some exciting new wildlife additions to the ranch! We’ve recently welcomed the Rothschild Giraffe, Jackson’s Hartebeest, and Plains Zebra. These amazing animals reflect our ongoing commitment to wildlife conservation, and we can’t wait for you to see them.

Another new beginning here at Ziwa this morning! Zebra number 26 has introduced herself in the early hours of the morning and she is beautiful and confident.
This marks now the 5th zebra birth so far this year, with another female threatening to give birth before the end of the year we could end up growing from 21 to 27 zebras in the first year of births since the translocation. This bodes very well for the coming years.

World Rhino Day! Today is all about celebrating and bring awareness to the story of rhinos. There are 5 rhino species worldwide and all of them face danger to their existence due to factors such as poaching, habitat loss and climate change.
At Ziwa, we have bred a new population in Uganda and have begun to translocate rhinos to other parts of the country where the rhino population was lost over 40 years ago due to poaching.
This marks an achievement of the primary vision of Ziwa but there is a lot more work left. We must ensure these populations created in Ajai & Kidepo remain stable and thrive as well as in the future create more populations to reduce the risk for Ajai & Kidepo going forward.

On Sep 19th, Team Ziwa completed and finished 3rd in the annual Wildlife Ranger Challenge hosted by @ugandacf & @ugwildlife in Murchison Falls NP.
The Wildlife Ranger Challenge is a gruelling test of endurance of both body and mind. Team Ziwa showed their best and made us all proud, placing 3rd. Next year we shall come for the top step, Team Kidepo, who have won it 4 years in a row! They are formidable and it will be a great challenge.
Well done to all participants, supporters & organisers for your efforts!

Our feathered Friends
Our wildlife ranch features woodlands, swamps, and savannahs, attracting a diverse range of bird species. We offer four unique bird trails on the ranch, so why not extend your stay for a couple of days to fully enjoy your visit? Our birding tours are perfect for birders, aspiring ornithologists, and photographers.
Our Growing Rhino Population
The Rhino Re-introduction Project was a joint project between Rhino Fund Uganda and the Roy family. Six southern white rhinos were introduced to Ziwa back in 2006. But, since then we have had many successful births, bringing our number to 42.
Ziwa is conveniently located 176km (109 miles) from Kampala on the Gulu Highway heading north towards Murchison Falls National Park. If you’re driving north, you should turn left at the Nakitoma Trading centre. We are a few kilometres away.
At One With Nature
Ziwa Rhino & Wildlife Ranch offers peace and tranquillity in beautiful surroundings where you can be at one with nature. Whether you’re photographing rhinos or any of the exotic wild birds that can be found here, we’re sure you’ll find your connection to nature.
And if you’re staying in our campsite or one of our guest houses, there’s plenty of nocturnal wildlife activity too. Our infra-red night cameras frequently pick up porcupines, aardvarks and other animals going about their business.

Camping With Rhinos
Our campsites are pristine and located very close to our main building. Electricity for the campsites is generated from hydroelectric and solar power, providing all rooms with light and warm water for showers. You can charge your mobile phone batteries and camera batteries as required upon request.
